SAP supports Hyper-V for productive use

As virtualization becomes more and more important for SAP, we are very excited that SAP has announced the support for Hyper-V as virtualization platform for productive SAP systems. During the last 12 month, we worked very closely with SAP on testing Hyper-V based installations, running performance tests and helped to develop a monitoring integration which enables the SAP CCMS to get information about virtual machines and physical servers. After all, Hyper-V proved to be a very reliable and scalable virtualization platform and fulfills all requirements for SAP applications. As Hyper-V is a server role in Windows Server 2008, it can be activated and used within minutes and provides a fully integrated, easy to manage virtualization platform.

Anybody interested in more info on the supported virtualization solutions with Windows could refer to the SAP White Paper Virtualizing SAP applications on Windows which gives more details. It is publically available at the URL: There is also an updated SAP note 674851 which gives you the support details and a SAP note 124667 which describes Hyper-V configuration guidelines. The SAP notes may be obtained at the SAP Service Marketplace (a password is required).

I will continue to provide in one of my next blogs a reference list of useful info about Hyper-V and SAP. Be sure to check back here.

Have fun working with Hyper-V
