Refreshing the SharePoint Online ‘site contents’ page

This page has been redesigned to provide visibility on site activity and top-viewed content, along with an easier to navigate site map, user tips and clearer access to add lists, document libraries, subsites and apps. We're committed to evolving your intranet experience. Please use the feedback button on the page to let us know what you think. We will be gradually rolling this out to First Release customers beginning June 1, 2016, and will release to all other customers over the following months. Learn more at


Updated Feature: SharePoint Document Library Experiences

Posted: June 2, 2016 | Urgency: Normal | Category: Plan for Change | Action: Awareness | Modern document libraries have been enabled for First Release customers on an opt-in basis for the past two months. Modern libraries offer many UI enhancements, such as thumbnails; uploading and links; inline creation of custom view and columns; and pinning. We’ve replaced the Ribbon with a clean, responsive command bar. Finally, modern libraries are becoming the new experience for files saved in Office 365 groups. We’re going to begin updating aspects of the document library experience on June 7, 2016, for First Release users, with worldwide rollout over the following month. First Release users will notice several changes. First, users will no longer be prompted to click to try the new experience. If a library is configured to use the new experience, users will be taken to that experience by default. Some library customizations are not yet supported in the modern experience, and if we detect such a customization we will automatically redirect users to the classic experience. Second, libraries will have a new header control at the top of the page. For libraries in team sites, this header includes global navigation links. For libraries in Office 365 Groups, the new control no longer includes links to the group’s conversation, calendar and member management. Instead, the new control will have a single link to the group’s conversation, from which users can navigate to calendar and member management. The new experience will be on by default for all First Release users. Tenant administrators and site owners have the ability to change that default on a tenant-wide or per-library basis. AzureAD Identity Protection adds support for federated identities!

Azure AD Identity Protection has been generating a TON of customer interest, especially with recent news about hackers selling huge lists of leaked user credentials. For the benefit of those who missed the original public preview announcement, you can think of Identity Protection as a gatekeeper to the cloud, analyzing and securing sign-ins to all of the applications Azure AD manage, including Office 365, and Azure, third party applications like ServiceNow,, Google Apps, and DropBox and on-premises apps connected using the Azure AD App Proxy. Now, we're excited to let you know that Azure AD Identity Protection has just turned on support for federated identities. This means that our largest customers, most of who use Active Directory Federation Server with Azure AD, can now get the benefit of this powerful security service. This blog post gives you a quick walk through of how to get this set up and working.
