Tip of the Day: Task Manager

  • One of the changes in Windows 8 that I’m enjoying the more that I use it is the face lift we gave to Task Manager. Here are the two improvements I want to call out.

    1. The Performance tab has this nice visual along the left side that gives you a quick idea of what your performance looks like for each component. Then you can highlight the component that you want to know more about.
    1. The other thing I like is how it lists the SVCHOST instances. In previous versions of Windows, Task Manager would simply display all the instances. Windows 8 Task Manager actually allows you to see what’s running in each instance.
