Test Lab Guide: Demonstrate Remote Access VPNs, our first community-authored modular TLG!
This is a community-authored and published Test Lab Guide (TLG) from TechNet Wiki community member Fred Smithers. It uses the Base Configuration TLG and the Routing and Remote Access service in Windows Server 2008 R2 on EDGE1 to create a working test lab for demonstrating remote access VPN connections from CLIENT1 on the Internet subnet. The resulting test lab is ripe for additional modular TLGs (for example, for Network Access Protection [NAP], smart card authentication, IPv6 over VPNs, router-to-router VPNs...), a troubleshooting TLG, and test lab extensions (RADIUS authentication, VPN Reconnect, Connection Manager...).
Check out this comment that Fred left on the article:
- Doing these test lab guides is easy! I did this one in a few hours. I just wrote down the procedure as I went and copied some sections from the DirectAccess test lab guide. Did a verify pass and posted.
He's right. Writing TLGs is easy (and a lot of fun). I strongly encourage anyone doing testing with the Base Configuration test lab to do as Fred did: write down the procedure that you went through to demonstrate some functionality in a demo or proof of concept, verify it, and then publish it in the TechNet Wiki.
Imagine how much time you can save other IT pros who are trying to figure out how to do what you just did.
Thanks to Fred for blazing the trail!
As always, enjoy!
