Create a validation rule

Use the Validation form to create validation rules.

This information applies only to Product builder.

In the Filter field group at the top of the form, you can select the filters that will allow you view all the rules or those of a specific type: Global or Local and Formula, Action, or Constraint.

You can also view the rules associated with the specific Rule set number, Product model, Variable, or Value.

Note

The number of visible fields and selections that you must make when you create validation rules depend on the filters that you select.

  1. Click Product information management > Common > Product builder > Product models. Select a product model. On the Action Pane, click the Models tab > Open. Click Validation.

  2. Specify whether the rule is Global or Local in the Local/Global field.

  3. In the Rule set/Model field, specify the rule set number for the global rules and product model number for the local rules.

  4. Type the unique rule identifier in the Clause number field.

  5. Type the rule description.

  6. In the Validation type field, select Formula, Action, or Constraint.

  7. Enter information on the other tabs, which are specific to rule types, for each rule. For more information, see About validation rule types.
