Minimum/maximum keys (form)

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Master planning > Setup > Coverage > Minimum/maximum keys.

Use this form to create and set up minimum and maximum keys. You can use these keys to increase or decrease the minimum and maximum inventory levels that you define for an item in the Item coverage form. During master scheduling, the inventory levels are used to calculate net requirements for the item.

You can use minimum and maximum keys to handle seasonal fluctuations in demand. For example, you can decrease the minimum inventory level of an item in the off season, and then gradually increase the level in the following months. To specify minimum and maximum inventory levels and use minimum/maximum keys, you must select the Min./Max. options in the Item coverage form.

A description of the minimum/maximum key.

Select this check box to indicate that the minimum/maximum key takes effect on the date that you enter in the Opening date field. If the Opening date field is blank, the key is valid from the current date, or system date.

Opening date

The date on which the key is valid. If the field is blank, and if you select the Fixed check box, the program uses the current date, or system date. You must enter a value in the field if you want to set up periods that extend over more than one year.

Use this field together with the Unit field. Enter a number to indicate the incremental change in the unit of time for the line.

Select a unit of time. You can select Days, Month(s), or Year. The From date, To date, and Month fields are filled in automatically, based on your selection.

To set up a key that covers each month of the year, create 12 lines, and number them from 1 to 12. Select Month(s) in the Unit field.

Enter the factor by which you want to multiply the minimum inventory for the selected line.

The minimum quantity of inventory that is kept in a warehouse is 10 pieces. For the month of September, you set a factor of 0.50 for the minimum key. Master scheduling calculates a minimum inventory requirement of 5 pieces. If you set a factor of 2.00, the minimum inventory requirement is 20 pieces.
