APIs under the /beta version in Microsoft Graph are subject to change. Use of these APIs in production applications is not supported.

Retrieve a single chat (without its messages).


One of the following permissions is required to call this API. To learn more, including how to choose permissions, see Permissions.

Permission type Permissions (from least to most privileged)
Delegated (work or school account) Chat.ReadBasic, Chat.Read, Chat.ReadWrite
Delegated (personal Microsoft account) Not supported.
Application Chat.ReadBasic.All, Chat.Read.All, Chat.ReadWrite.All


With application permissions, getting a single chat is supported, but getting a list of chats is not.


Before calling this API with application permissions, you must request access. For details, see Protected APIs in Microsoft Teams.

GET /me/chats/{id}
GET /users/{id}/chats/{id}
GET /chats/{id}

Optional query parameters

This operation does not currently support OData query parameters to customize the response.

Header Value
Authorization Bearer {token}. Required.

Request body

Do not supply a request body for this method.


If successful, this method returns a 200 OK response code and a collection of chat objects in the response body.
