Exercise - Measuring customer success using goals

  1. In the SiteMap, select the ellipsis (...), select App Settings.

  2. Under Goal Management, select Goal Metrics.

  3. On the command bar, select the New button to open the Goal Metric form.

  4. In Step 1: Define the Metric section, complete the following:

    • Name - Invoiced Revenue

    • Metric Type - Amount

    • Amount Data Type - Money

  5. Select the Save button to save the goal metric and leave it open.

  6. Select the Rollup Fields tab.

  7. Select the Add New Rollup Field button.

  8. Complete the new rollup field as follows:

    • In the Step 1 section:

      • Set the Rollup Field drop-down list to Actual (Money).
    • In the Step 2 section: - Set the Source Record Type drop-down list to Invoice. - Set the Source Field drop-down list to Total Amount. - Set the Source Record Type State drop-down list to Paid. - Leave the Source Record Type Status field blank.

    • In the Step 3 section:

      • Set the Record Type drop-down list to Invoice.

      • Set the Date Field drop-down list to Modified On.

  9. On the command bar, select Save and Close to close the Rollup field.

  10. In the Goal Metric form, select Save and Close to close the form.

Creating a goal

Scenario: You need to establish a goal for one of your salespeople that tracks their progress toward paid invoices over this quarter. Their goal is $25,000.

High-level steps

  • Create a goal for your Dynamics 365 user record for $25,000 for paid invoices this quarter.

  • Create a rollup query that only queries invoices that are associated with accounts.

  • Create a new invoice that is tied to your Dynamics 365 user record.

  • Recalculate the goal to reflect the progress made toward achieving the goal.

Detailed steps

Create a goal for your Dynamics 365 user record for $25,000 for paid invoices this quarter.

  1. Under Goal Management, select Goals.

  2. From the My Goals for this Period view, select the New button on the command bar.

  3. Complete the goal as follows:

    • Name - Invoiced Revenue for "Your Name"

    • Goal Metric - Invoiced Revenue

    • Goal Owner - "Your User Record"

  4. Select the Time Period tab, and configure as follows:

    • Goal Period Type - Fiscal Period

    • Fiscal Period - Select the current period.

  5. Select the Targets tab, and configure as follows:

    • Target - $25,000
  6. Select the Save button on the command bar.

Create a new invoice that is tied to CRM DemoUser

  1. In the Sales Hub app, select Invoices.

  2. On the command bar, select New to create a new invoice.

  3. Complete the invoice as follows:

    • In the Name field, enter Coho Winery Invoice.

    • Under Sales Information, select Customer, and then select Coho Winery (Sample) from the lookup pane.

  4. In the Price List field in the general information section, select Retail.

  5. Verify that the Owner field displays your user record. If not, change it.

  6. Select Save.

  7. In the Products section, select the Add Invoice Product Record button ([+]).

  8. In the menu, select Existing Product.

  9. In the Lookup field, enter SOP.

  10. Select the Magnifying Glass, and select SOP Ink Jet 300: 3-in-1.

  11. Change the Quantity to 50 and tab off the field.

  12. On the command bar, select the Invoice Paid button, then select OK.

Recalculate the goal to reflect the progress CRM DemoUser has made

  1. Go to Goals.

  2. Change the view to display All Goals.

  3. Select the Invoice Revenue by CRM "Your Name" goal in the Active Goals view and open it.

  4. Select Recalculate on the command bar. Select OK to see the new values listed in the Percent Achieved and Actual columns to reflect the paid invoice
