Exercise - Set up a dimension with dimension values
This exercise is written to use the Cronus sample company from the US version of Business Central. You might need to make adjustments to the steps if you use the sample company from your country or region.
Scenario
CRONUS wants to analyze sales margins for each sales activity. As the accounting manager, you must set up a new dimension to meet this requirement.
The new dimension is called Activity and includes the following values:
Furniture
Chairs
Tables
Bundles
Services
Decoration
Repair and maintenance
Make sure that you use the Indent Dimension Values function.
Tasks
Create the new dimensions and dimension values.
Steps
Select the Search for Page icon in the top-right corner of the page, enter dimensions, and then select the related link.
Select New.
In the Code field, enter Activity.
Select Dimension and then Dimension Values.
In the Code field, enter 100.
In the Name field, enter Furniture.
In the Dimension Value Type field, enter Begin-Total.
Select New.
In the Code field, enter 101.
In the Name field, enter Chairs.
In the Dimension Value Type field, enter Standard.
Select New.
In the Code field, enter 102.
In the Name field, enter Tables.
In the Dimension Value Type field, enter Standard.
Select New.
In the Code field, enter 103.
In the Name field, enter Bundles.
In the Dimension Value Type field, enter Standard.
Select New.
In the Code field, enter 199.
In the Name field, enter Furniture, total.
In the Dimension Value Type field, enter End-Total.
Select Actions > Functions > Indent Dimension Values.
You can repeat these steps to create dimension values, 200 - Services.
