Release notes for Current Channel

These release notes provide information about new features and non-security updates that are included in Current Channel updates for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, Microsoft 365 Apps for business, and the subscription versions of the desktop apps for Project and Visio.

Excel

  • We fixed an issue where some worksheet functions were not appearing for users with certain languages.

  • When opening linked tables to Dynamics, numbers may appear as small squares when the data is displayed. To work around this issue, open the link in Table Design view, and clear the Format property for any affected columns.

Outlook

  • We fixed an issue where sending mail by right clicking and selecting "Send Mail" from the file system caused explorer.exe to close unexpectedly on VDI machines.

PowerPoint

  • We fixed an issue when a user changes an original Portrait and bigger paper size document to a smaller paper size (e.g. from Letter to A5), its print out would be cut off (data loss).

Project

  • We fixed an issue when tasks are rescheduled in Project, manually scheduled tasks may be scheduled earlier than they should be.

Teams

  • Music on Hold for Consult/Transfer: Music on Hold for Consult/Transfer scenarios ensures that users placed on hold will hear music while consultation and transfer occurs, ensuring that the caller knows that the call is still active.

  • Explicit recording start/stop messages to improve recording availability and discoverability: Redesign of recording start and stop messages in chat to improve discoverability and accessibility. It will also be easier to find a successfully uploaded recording in a meeting chat.

  • Microsoft Teams: Room video fits to frame: Conference room video fits to frame by default and provide a full view of the room on Teams desktop app. Users can choose to fill frame for room video as needed.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Chat bubbles: Ability to view chats sent during a Teams meeting on the front of room display in a Teams Room, calling attention to the chat conversation happening alongside the meeting.

  • Teams Guest Access Support for Sovereign Clouds (GCC-H): Teams now supports Guest Access in Sovereign Clouds.

  • Expiration of Teams meeting recordings: For Teams meeting recordings saved to OneDrive & SharePoint you'll now be able to define a default number of days to keep recordings before they are automatically deleted. Users will be notified of upcoming expiration dates of their recordings and be able to override the expiration date per recording file.

  • Teams Q&A: Question & Answer application for Teams webinars & meetings. By adding this application to any Teams Webinars or Meetings, users will be able to create either moderated or unmoderated Q&A experience.

  • Microsoft Teams: 2x2 video in Gallery view for web meetings in Safari: Gallery view can now show up to 4 participant videos during a meeting in Safari browser.

  • Message Deletion for Chat Supervisors: This feature, designed with our Teams for Education users in mind, allows chat supervisors to delete anyone's message in chats.

  • Enable Teams users to purchase Teams apps through Teams client: Teams users have now the ability to purchase Teams app subscriptions from the Teams store.

  • SMS notifications from Bookings app in Teams: SMS confirmations and reminders with Teams meeting link for appointments created from Bookings app in Teams.

  • Support for CART and human typed captions: Teams meetings now supports embedded CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) captions from 3P CART service providers. CART users now don't have to open up a secondary browser window to stream CART captions. This will help attendees who are deaf or hard of hearing participate in meetings and makes it easier because the meeting presenter and meeting content will be in one place.

  • Federation/External Access with user in Teams outside of IT managed organizations.: This feature extends the Teams Connect offerings to also allow user in an IT managed organization to start 1:1 and Group chats with users outside of an IT managed organization (TFL). No support for meetings, TFL users starting chats, or calls in this release. This feature will only be supported for EDU tenants initially.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Split video layout across multiple screens: Ability to split the video gallery across all available displays in a Teams Room, when content isn’t being shared, maximizing screen space and bringing greater attention to the people joining remotely.

  • Meeting room capacity notifications: This feature enables room administrators to automatically notify in-room meeting participants if a room is over capacity. Room administrators can define meeting room capacity for the room account in exchange and room uses the data from meeting room cameras with people-counting technologies to identify how many people are in a room, and alert in-room meeting participants if it is over-capacity. The notification is displayed as a banner across the top of the screen at the front of the room.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Spotlight multiple video streams: Ability to Spotlight multiple video streams (up to 7 participants) simultaneously during a Teams meeting. Users can select which participants to pin from the center of room console.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Support for large meeting controls: Ability for a Teams Room on Windows to join a large meeting as a presenter or attendee. Based on the role assumed by the Teams Room, appropriate meeting controls are made available to presenters for meeting moderation and for attendees.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Lock meeting support: Ability to lock a meeting, preventing additional participants from joining. Users attempting to join a locked meeting will be informed that the meeting is locked.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Support for Logitech Scribe content camera: From a Teams Room you can effortlessly share analog whiteboards into Teams meetings using the Logitech Scribe content camera and Intelligent Capture feature in Teams.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Live reactions: Ability to view live reactions sent by participants in a Teams meeting on the front of room display in a Teams Room. Room users can also send reaction from center of the room console.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Pin multiple video streams: Ability to pin multiple video streams (up to 9 participants) simultaneously during a Teams meeting. User can select which participants to pin from the center of room console.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Presenter mode support: Ability for presenter mode views to appear on the front of room display in a Teams Room. Presenter mode is a feature in PowerPoint Live that helps you customize how your video feed and content appear to the meeting audience.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Updated Meeting Roster: The updated meeting roster (viewable on the Teams Rooms console) more closely aligns with the experience available through the Teams desktop app, and includes capabilities like participant grouping, sort roster by raised hand, integrated user search. As well as with ability to ask others to join meeting from invited list or from chat.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Dynamic view on single and dual displays: Dynamic view automatically optimizes shared content and video participants in Teams meetings. New controls let you personalize the view to suit your preferences and needs, such as the ability to show shared content and specific participants side-by-side or to view content or people only.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows: Large gallery view and Together Mode in GCCH: Ability for Teams Rooms to support different video gallery layouts including Large gallery and Together mode, in GCCH clouds.

  • Live Transcript in Teams Meetings in Additional Spoken Languages: Meetings held in one of the supported languages now are supported by Live Transcript. We have expanded from just English (US) to include EN*, German, French (France), French (Canada), Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Dutch, Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), Hindi, Italian, Korean, Russian, and Swedish.

  • Q&A in Teams meeting: Add the Q&A app to a meeting/webinar in order to add moderated or un-moderated Q&A to the session.

  • Team Templates: Refresh to Team Templates content with additional apps and channels in the Microsoft-provided predefined team structure.

  • Extensible Camera Effects in Microsoft Teams Meetings: Build immersive experiences for Microsoft Teams meetings by leveraging our new platform offering and empower end-users with augmented experiences while in a Microsoft Teams meeting

  • Content from camera: "Content from camera” in Teams empowers users to share content from physical artefacts such as whiteboards and documents in a high quality and legible way during meetings. Using this, Educators can also share content directly from a document camera during a Teams call.To use this feature, users should have a laptop/PC with an in-built camera or USB camera that can be plugged into a laptop/PC. While using this feature, camera should be pointed towards a whiteboard or document in view and ideally within a 4 feet range. If you don’t have a whiteboard, you can still test the feature with a flip-chart or chart stuck on a wall.

  • Large Gallery for VDI: Large Gallery feature will enables a Teams meeting participant on Virtual Machine to see an expanded view of the meetings gallery with 7x7 = 49 simultaneous user video streams in a Teams meetings.

  • Changing default notification style to Native notification from Teams built-in for new users: Native Notifications provide a host of benefits like support for action center, accessibility, and support for focus assist mode. Currently the default notification style for a new user in Microsoft teams is Teams Purple. With this change the default for new user will change to Native Notification.

  • Teams Network planner for government clouds: Network Planner can help you determine and organize network requirements for connecting Microsoft Teams users across your organization. When you provide your network details and Teams usage, the Network Planner calculates your network requirements for deploying Teams and cloud voice across your organization's physical locations.

  • Live Captions for Teams Meetings for your personal life: Personal Teams Meetings will now have live captions.

  • Pin a chat message: You can now easily pin chat messages to drive awareness and provide your chat members quick access to important content. Pinning will help your team stay in sync on what’s and relevant in a timely manner.

  • Support Human Interface Devices for WVD: This feature will support use of Human Interface Devices (HID) for Team on WVD

  • Expiration of Teams meeting recordings: For Teams meeting recordings saved to OneDrive & SharePoint you'll now be able to define a default number of days to keep recordings before they are automatically deleted.   • Breakout Room Presenter support: Extend the management of Breakout Rooms to specific presenters.

  • Career Coach - Improved accessibility and minor updates: Career Coach will receive minor updates to copy and performance. The application will also adhere to greater levels of accessibility for keyboard navigation and screen readers.

  • We fixed an issue where an error was attempting to use the DAO API from non-Office applications would stop responding with message, "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application."

  • In certain customer configurations, it was discovered that document exports to PDF or XPS formats from Office would fail due to recent updates. This update fixed these regressions and reenabled export to these formats.

Excel

  • Excel was clearing out the value for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Common\UserInfo\Company in non-MSI installs of Office. We have fixed this issue which primarily affected customers using non-MSI versions of Office.

  • Addressed an issue where under rare circumstances Excel could stop responding while calculating a workbook.

  • This version fixed a unexpected close which happened during save for some documents in tenants which opted into protected coauthoring if the local file cache had tenant Id datum formatted incorrectly.

  • In certain customer configurations, it was discovered that document exports to PDF or XPS formats from Office would fail due to recent updates. This update fixed these regressions and reenabled export to these formats.

OneNote

  • We fixed an issue which updated the hot key for creating a Quick Note to be Win + Alt + N.

Outlook

  • We fixed an issue that caused Room Finder to fail to load.

  • We fixed an issue that caused users to be able to download protected voice mail files.

  • We fixed an issue that caused some users to experience a unexpected close after adding a shared calendar.

  • We fixed an issue that caused users of Outlook's "shared calendar improvements" feature to experience high CPU usage.

  • We fixed an issue that caused calendars added to the "shortcuts" module to disappear after Outlook restarts.

  • We fixed an issue that caused users to see shared calendars that they added not be checked by default, leading them to believe that the calendar had failed to get added.

  • This version fixed a unexpected close which happened during save for some documents in tenants which opted into protected coauthoring if the local file cache had tenant Id datum formatted incorrectly.

  • Breakout Room pre-meeting room creation and participant assignment: Introducing capability for organizer to perform breakout room configuration and participant assignment before the meeting starts.

  • Live Captions in additional spoken languages for Teams Meetings: Meetings held in one of the supported languages now are supported by real time captioning. We have expanded from just English (US) to include English (Canada), English (India), English (United Kingdom), English (Australia), English (International), Deutsch (Deutschland), Português (Brasil), Nederlands (Nederland), Nederlands (Belgium), Français (France), Español (España, alfabetización internacional), 日本語 (日本), Français (France), Chinese (Cantonese, Traditional), Chinese (Mandarin, Simplified), Hindi (India), Italian (Italy), Korean (Korea), Spanish (Mexico), Swedish (Sweden), Polish (Poland), Arabic (United Arab Emirates), Arabic (Saudi Arabia).

  • Stream Teams Meetings to custom RTMP endpoints: Streaming allows your organization to expand your reach and gives meeting attendees more meeting options. When you enable streaming, organizers can stream meetings and webinars to external endpoints by providing a Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) URL and key to the built-in Custom Streaming app in Teams.

  • Transfer calls between Desktop and Mobile: Teams calling participants soon will be able transfer an ongoing 1:1 Teams VoIP call, a PSTN call or a Group call between Teams devices, i.e. from your desktop client to your mobile client or to another desktop client. In addition to it users will also be able to add another device as a companion to their call. This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 68776.

  • Video Streams Out via AJA or Blackmagic Design Hardware: Isolated video streams can be sent out of Teams meetings via AJA and Blackmagic Design hardware devices.

  • New assignment experience in modal window for Breakout Rooms: Enhanced UX for participant assignment. This includes new capabilities such as sorting participants and rooms and performing multiple selections and assignments to rooms.

  • Peer5 eCDN support for Teams Live Events: Soon, you will be able to use Peer5 as an eCDN provider for your Teams Live Event network needs.

  • Speaker Attribution in Live Transcript in Teams Meetings in GCC Clouds: Teams Meetings in GCC clouds will now have live transcript utterances attributed to the speaker of the utterance.

  • Approvals - Sequential Approvers Support: Requestors will now be able to toggle on sequential approvals to designate the approval order of the request.

  • Present from PowerPoint to Teams with M365 Apps for Business license: The capability of presenting your slides directly from the PowerPoint desktop apps to a meeting via PowerPoint Live in Teams is now extended to the Microsoft 365 Apps for Business license.

  • Embedded CART Captioning support for Teams Meetings: Teams Meetings now support integration with real-time captioning providers and CART writers (Communication Access Real-Time Transcription) so that users who utilize CART captions can view the captions in the same window as their meeting.

  • Dual-tone multi-frequency for Citrix: DTMF for Teams on VDI for Citrix customers.Dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) for Teams is now available for users on Citrix VDI. Previously, when a Citrix VDI user calls into the meeting using the dial-in n​umber, the call is connected, but you are not admitted to the meeting because DTMF tone is not sent. Now, when the same user enters the conference ID, DTMF will recognize the ID being entered and admit user to the meeting.

  • Error screen during chat failure: User will see the chat error screen incase of failure to render chat during meeting.

  • Microsoft Teams meetings LTI application for educational learning management systems (LMS): Microsoft Teams meetings is an LTI app that helps educators and students easily incorporate Teams meetings into their LMS course. Users can view past & upcoming meetings, schedule individual or recurring meetings, and join the Teams meetings related to the course all from within their LMS.

  • Together Mode Extensibility: Together Mode Extensibility

  • Simplified class team navigation for Teams for Education: Access Assignments, Grades, Class Notebook and Insights more easily from your main class team navigation.

  • Starting recording will also start live transcription: Assuming both recording and policy settings are enabled, turning on recording will also start live transcription.

  • Missed Activity Email in DOD: Missed activity email enables the user to stay on top of Microsoft teams. A missed activity email is generated in case a user is away from Microsoft teams and has not reviewed their notifications. A user can choose to receive Missed activity emails by going to settings -> notifications -> choosing the frequency.

  • Top hits in Search Autosuggest: Top hits is a new section at the top of the autosuggest results in search where users will see the most relevant results across people, chats, files and more. This feature will improve discovery and reduce search times.

  • Manage Device Permissions for Teams Apps: Personalize permissions to use camera, location, and other capabilities within each app.

  • Live Transcript in unscheduled Teams Meetings: Now unscheduled/ad hoc Teams Meetings are supported by Live Transcript.

  • Live Transcript in Teams Channel Meetings: Channel meetings in Teams are now supported by Live Transcript.

  • Live Captions on Teams Meetings on Web: Live Captions are now available for web users of Teams Meetings.

  • Reporter and Side-by-Side Mode in Teams meetings: You can now appear next to your content for a more engaging presentation and consumption experience

  • Embedded CART Captioning support for Teams Meetings: Teams Meetings now support integration with real-time captioning providers and CART writers (Communication Access Real-Time Transcription) so that users who utilize CART captions can view the captions in the same window as their meeting.

  • Fixed an error that causes tables dropped into the query design or system relationship window to appear in a different location then where they were dropped.

  • Fixed an error where attempting to use the DAO API from non-Office applications would stop working with "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application."

Excel

  • We fixed an issue where the "File" tab text was getting cut off in some languages.

  • We fixed an issue where connecting to a data source from within the PowerPivot window was not working.

  • We fixed a problem where the Analysis ToolPak add-in did not work with certain Automation Security settings.

  • We fixed an issue bug that is causing office apps to stop responding, when multiple office apps are running at the same time. This also fixes other stability issues across the system that arises because of the reponse issue.

  • We fixed an issue that caused date fields in PivotTables to be grouped incorrectly.

Outlook

  • We fixed an issue that caused users to be able to download protected attachments.

  • We fixed an issue where the app stopped working while composing an email using Outlook.

  • We fixed an issue where the app stops responding shortly after Outlook boot.

  • We fixed an issue where email signatures would be missing after a change in the account's UPN/SMTP name.

  • Improvement for managing attendee audio permissions in a Teams Meeting: Previously, meeting presenters or organizers couldn't disable the mic of a single attendee in a meeting. The organizer or presenter could only set "Allow attendees to unmute" to off, thereby disabling the mics of every attendee. With this change, meeting presenters and organizers can prevent individual attendees from unmuting in an ad-hoc manner during a Teams Meeting.

  • Improved Experience in the Meeting Participant Roster: We are now changing how the participant list is displayed in a Teams meeting for the Lobby, In meeting, Presenters, and Attendees participant sections. A maximum of 20 participants for each of the sections will be displayed in the initial view, with an option to drill in and view more participants within that section. For the lobby, you can review the full list before you admit all into the meeting. The roster will display details of most active participants in the meeting arranged in alphabetical order. There are no changes to the participants action menu.

  • Search meeting participants from the roster: From the search box in the roster, users can now search currently in the meeting participants, to know whether a particular individual has joined the meeting. They can continue to search for participants outside the meeting and request them to join the meeting.

  • Share to Teams from Outlook: Share to Teams from Outlook allows you to send a copy of email messages or conversations, including attachments, into Teams chats and channels.   • Break the language barrier with a built-in translator: Add-ins for translation aren't required anymore! You can now use the Intelligent Translator in Outlook. When you receive a message in another language, a prompt will appear on top of the message asking if you’d like Outlook to translate it to your default language.   • Require users to apply sensitivity labels: Users will be prompted to apply a sensitivity label if their organization's policy requires it.

Teams

  • Presenter View when sharing a PowerPoint file: When sharing a PowerPoint file in a meeting, the presenter can now a thumbnail strip of all the slides in the deck for easy ad-hoc slide navigation.

  • Theming and icon updates: We have made updates to the default and dark theme colors and to the icon.

  • Live Event Presenter Support on iPad: You can present in a live event from your supported iPad device.

  • Poll meeting participants using Microsoft Forms: Polls for Teams meetings is an easily discoverable and seamless experience that will help you conduct more engaging and productive meetings. With Polls, which is powered by Microsoft Forms, meeting presenters can prepare, launch, and evaluate polls before, during, and after meetings, respectively, all from one place under a tab in the Teams meeting. As a meeting presenter, you can add the Forms app as a tab in the Teams meeting, then create, launch, and evaluate your polls from one place. Create polls to be launched during the meeting even before the meeting begins. Then, after the meeting, you can choose to evaluate responses in the tab, an exported Excel workbook, or on the web in the Forms app. Presenters have a variety of controls, like enabling anonymous responses, closing polls, and exporting results to Excel. Attendees from any endpoint (mobile, web, desktop) can view and answer polls as they appear on the meeting screen or in the meeting chat, as well as see non-anonymous poll results in real time.

  • Meeting reactions: Meeting reactions are a new way to interact in meetings. Participants can send reactions and they'll be shown as a stream on content that is shared, and on the individual who sent the reaction if they're displayed on the meeting stage.

  • History Menu for desktop client: The History Menu in Teams desktop client lets you easily get back to recently visited locations. Simply hover over the forward or backward navigation options in the desktop client and select the location. A keyboard shortcut is also available to open the menu.

  • Cortana in Microsoft Teams Rooms for US: Cortana voice assistance in Microsoft Teams Rooms lets you have a touchless experience for calling a number from your conference room, joining or ending a meeting, or adding a number to a meeting.

  • Masking phone numbers: We released a new admin setting for masking phone numbers for dial-in participants when they join a meeting. Admins can choose to mask phone numbers from everyone in the meeting (except the organizer), from external people only or have masking disabled. If the admins choose to have this setting disabled, the phone numbers will be displayed fully in the meeting. (private release until the end of October)

  • Calendar sharing: We added the ability to add a channel to a calendar tab.

  • Bringing more scenes to Together Mode: Teams have now introduced the ability for meeting organisers or presenters to change the Together Mode scene allowing attendees to appear in different experiences together.

  • Anaheim WebView does not support Windows Information Protection (WIP) yet. With this fix Office addin platform falls back to down level WebView in WIP enabled environment. That can be either Edge Spartan WebView or Trident WebView depending on customer's machine environment. Both down level WebViews support WIP.
