Release notes for Monthly Channel releases in 2018

These release notes provide information about new features, security updates, and non-security updates that are included in Monthly Channel updates to Office 365 ProPlus in 2018.

Note

  • The following also provides information about new features, security updates, and non-security updates for Visio Pro for Office 365 and Project Online Desktop Client.
  • This information also applies to Office 365 Business, which is the version of Office that comes with some Office 365 plans, such as Business Premium.
  • We often roll out features (and sometimes even fixes) to Monthly over a period of time. This allows us to ensure that things are working smoothly before releasing the feature to a wider audience. So, if you don’t see something described below, don't worry you'll get it eventually. Learn more

  • See people's LinkedIn details in Outlook: Now, when you open a contact’s profile card, you can learn more about them by viewing their LinkedIn profile.
  • Polished the Focused Inbox on and off experiences: For customers that do not use Focused Inbox, we brought back the Unread tab in the message list across all folders. We also added a sort by Flag to make it easier to find flagged items. Finally, Focused Inbox has a better interaction model with search: Focused Inbox remains until a user starts to search and we show 'Results' text shown after a search completes.
  • Block download of external content by default in SMIME encrypted and signed emails: Due to a vulnerability in the SMIME protocol - Outlook will block download of external content on messages that have been encrypted or signed over SMIME. Users will not be able to single-click download external content through Outlook UI to protect from the security vulnerability. There is a new option in the Options dialog to allow for users to revert to old behavior.

  • See slide number on printed handouts: Add slide number to the print copy of your handouts. Learn more

Office Suite: Feature updates

  • Share and upload your documents with the new exposed buttons in the Info Place: Previously Share, Copy Path to Clipboard, and Open File Location buttons were only accessible behind the document save path. Now they're buttons you can clearly see in the Info Place! Navigate to File > Info as you normally would to see these new buttons.

  • Stop seeing reminders for past events: You can set your calendar to automatically dismiss reminders for events after they've ended. Learn more

These problems could be due to latency of events such as switching between Outlook folders, arrival of new emails, opening Calendar items, etc. When such issues arise, Outlook will display a warning in the notification bar.
  • Join Teams meetings from the Outlook Reminders dialog: When Outlook reminds users of an upcoming meeting, it will show a Join Online button if the upcoming meeting is a Teams online meeting. This is similar to the experience of joining a Skype for Business meeting from the Outlook Reminders dialog.

  • Set percent complete from a task board: Choose a percent complete for each column, and then update task completion with drag-and-drop.

Excel: Non-security updates

  • Fix an issue where Quick Print of an Excel workbook attached to an Outlook email may not print.
  • Fix an issue where clicking on a hyperlink may cause Excel to crash.
  • Fix an issue where using cube functions causes Excel to crash.

OneDrive for Business: Non-security updates

  • Fix an issue where OneDrive for Business (Groove.exe) consumes one CPU core’s worth of CPU (for example, 25% on a 4 core CPU) in Task Manager for extended periods of time.

Outlook: Feature updates

  • Blind carbon copy (Bcc) warning: A warning appears if you choose Reply All to a message that you were Bcc’ed on.
  • A smarter To: line: When you click the To: line to address a message, we suggest recipients you're likely to choose. Plus, you can see their picture, so you know yo’re sending to the right person.

  • More stencils for business diagrams: Using modern shapes, compare and contrast data with a Venn diagram, or draw Cycle, Matrix, or Pyramid diagrams to help tell your story.
  • Keep your diagram and source in sync: When you edit a Data Visualizer diagram in Visio, you have the option to update the linked Excel source data with the latest diagram content.

  • Fix an issue where the P2P audio call window or conference call window becomes transparent when you attempt to join.
  • Fix an issue where upcoming Skype meetings do not show up in the meetings tab.
  • Fix an issue where, when Skype for Business is configured to join meetings without audio, adding audio to a meeting initiates a new P2P call to the user itself rather than adding audio to the existing meeting.
  • Fix an issue where user receives the error message "We couldn't find this Skype meeting" when clicking 'Join Skype Meeting' link in a meeting request from Outlook.

Skype for Business: Non-security updates

  • Add call transfer button in the toast UI for incoming PSTN calls.
  • Notify users that calls and chat are being sent to Teams when ChatDefaultClient and CallDefaultClient are set to Teams.
  • Show user’s presence as Offline when user is not in a meeting and disabled from Skype for Business and meeting join experience is set to Native Limited Client.
  • Disable all options except Open and Exit when Skype for Business is minimized to the notification area. 
  • Suppress new calls and conversations when paired with Aries phones and RedirectClient is enabled.
  • Fix an issue where searching messages in PChat by date fails when the date format is other than US format (mm/dd/yy).
  • Fix an issue where, when EnableExternalP2PFileTransfer policy is set to false, users are still able to attach files in meetings.

Visio: Feature updates

  • Use Excel templates to export to a Visio diagram: Get a jump on your Visio flowcharts. Enter your data in one of the Process Map Excel templates and export to Visio to create the diagram automatically. Requires Visio Pro for Office 365.
