2.6 Versioning, Capability Negotiation, and Extensibility

Versions 1.0 and 2.0 of the Content Information Data Structure, as described in [MS-PCCRC] section 2<8> are supported by the Peer Content Caching and Retrieval: Content Identification, as described in [MS-PCCRC], the Peer Content Caching and Retrieval Discovery Protocol, as described in [MS-PCCRD], the Peer Content Caching and Retrieval: Retrieval Protocol, as described in [MS-PCCRR], the Peer Content Caching and Retrieval: HTTP Extensions, as described in [MS-PCCRTP], and the Peer Content Caching and Retrieval: Hosted Cache Protocol, as described in [MS-PCHC].

Capability Negotiation: If the client sends messages that are defined in version 2.0 and the server supports only version 1.0, then the server ignores the minor version and replies by using version 1.0.

The following protocols have version-specific capability: The Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) Upload Protocol, as described in [MC-BUP], the Peer Content Caching and Retrieval: HTTP Extensions, as described in [MS-PCCRTP], and the Peer Content Caching and Retrieval: Retrieval Protocol, as described in [MS-PCCRR].<9>
