3.1.6.3 Startup Timer Events

When the Startup timer expires, it denotes a time period wherein the failover endpoint is in the STARTUP state and has been unable to establish communication with the failover partner server. The following are the tasks to be performed when this time expires:

  1. The prevState member of the shared DHCPv4FailoverRelationship ADM element ([MS-DHCPM] section 3.1.1.33) MUST be checked to see if it is in the INIT or NO_STATE state.

  2. If DHCPv4FailoverRelationship is in the INIT or NO_STATE state, the failover endpoint SHOULD be transitioned to the COMMUNICATIONS-INTERRUPTED state.

  3. Otherwise, the failover endpoint SHOULD be transitioned to the COMMUNICATION-FAILED state indicated by the prevState member of the shared DHCPv4FailoverRelationship ADM element. The COMMUNICATION-FAILED state is depicted in the Failover state diagram machine figure in section 3.1.1.
