3.1.6 Timer Events

The NKPU Protocol relies on the underlying transport, either DHCPv4 or DHCPv6, to respond to its timer events while adhering to relevant RFC standards.

On DHCPv4, when the RDT expires (section 3.1.2), the retransmission delay logic described in [RFC2131] section 4.1 is executed. If the DHCPv4 RA is exhausted, the NKPU protocol has failed on this transport.

On DHCPv6, when the RT expires (section 3.1.2), the retransmission time-out logic described in [RFC3315] section 14 is executed. If the DHCPv6 MRC is reached, the NKPU Protocol has failed on this transport.
