1.6 Applicability Statement

The Virtual Disk Service Remote Protocol applies when an application needs to remotely configure disks, volumes, and iSCSI initiators.

Applications MAY<2> also use DMRP, as specified in [MS-DMRP], to perform logical functions that are similar to those that the VDS Remote Protocol performs.
