Competency requirements

Appropriate roles: Global admin | MPN partner admin

Overview

This article describes the requirements to achieve competencies that will help demonstrate your expertise in delivering quality solutions in one or more specialized areas of business.

General rules for competency performance thresholds

  • Seats must be paid licenses to count toward seat requirements. Trial or free seats aren't applicable.

  • Offer types (trial, benefits programs, support, and internal are excluded).

  • Non-profit organizations, education, and charity tenants aren't considered for performance evaluation.

  • Check requirements under the desired competency on the Partner Center dashboard to learn more, such as partner association type, offer type, time-to-market (TTM), and so on.

  • Performance driven through a specific partner association type, such as Digital Partner of Record (DPOR), Partner Admin Link (PAL), or Claiming Partner of Record (CPOR), will be recognized for competencies/programs attainment only from the date of the association, not retroactively.

  • Monthly active usage (MAU) is calculated on a rolling 28-day basis and represents the unique number of users taking an intentional action on a specific service. "Intentional action" refers to an action taken by a user to purposefully engage with a seat-based online service, or any action that triggers the meter on a consumption-based online service.

Small/midmarket cloud solutions (Office 365 services)

A customer who starts a cloud subscription (paid) for the first time with Microsoft in the previous 12 months is considered new.

The following table explains the status codes for small and midmarket cloud solutions.

Status code Definition
1 Customer was newly added during the last 365 days and wasn't associated with the partner prior to that. Note that the customer's initiated units should change after association in order for the customer to be considered new.
0 Customer's subscription started more than 365 days ago, or the customer was associated with the partner more than 365 days ago.
-1 Customer's subscription is in deprovisioned status.

Note

If more than four weeks have passed since the date of association and the customer is still missing, provide Microsoft with the following details to analyze your request:

  • Tenant ID
  • Subscription GUID for the tenant
