Business value

Customers developing dataflows need a faster save and close experience. Enhanced validation will make the process of evaluating the data structure and the types of the queries much faster, reducing latency and enabling quicker saving.

Feature details

Users select Save when they're finished authoring or making changes to a dataflow. The save action is currently coupled with validating the dataflow, which can take a very long time. Previously, users weren't able to leave the screen and had to wait until after the validation completed in order to see their changes. Users could be subject to timeouts and were blocked from continuing to develop dataflows.

With this update, users can save a dataflow and close the editor. Power BI will get the schema from the Power Query experience directly, while support for incremental updates will enable saving a dataflow and closing the editor with less friction and latency.
