Business value

Automatic aggregations are managed automatically by Power BI, accelerating time to insight, and reducing total cost of ownership. Most business intelligence queries are aggregated in nature; therefore, if you cache data at the aggregated level, you'll see a high rate of return in terms of boosting query performance while minimizing data duplication.

Feature details

Automatic aggregations will automatically create and manage VertiPaq in-memory aggregation tables in Power BI Premium datasets in DirectQuery mode. The aggregation tables will be based on usage and query patterns. They will be automatically maintained as a self-learning, self-optimizing, AI-driven system. Power BI queries generated when users interact with report visuals will automatically use the aggregation tables. This feature will provide enhanced performance and user concurrency to unlock massive datasets for interactive analysis.

The automatic aggregations feature will include a lift chart to show the performance impact across all users and reports for the dataset.
