How to: Set Text Encoding for a File

As described in Files and Projects in Visual SourceSafe, several types of encoding for text files are available. Visual SourceSafe handles all Unicode files as text. The default text encoding is Unicode (UTF-8), but you can change it as described in this topic.

To set file encoding:

  1. In Visual SourceSafe Explorer, on the File menu, click Properties, then the General tab.

  2. Change the file encoding in the Type box as required for the file.

  3. If you want file type to be automatically selected, select the Auto-detect check box.

  4. Click OK.
