Background:	This project will update the aging multiple-operating-system environment and reduce the number of active operating systems to two: Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows® XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Recommendation:	The project will be managed mostly with existing IT staff and will be completed in phases taking a total of 11.5 months. The procedures used to plan this project will be based on industry best practices found in BDD.
Project Scope:	This project will enable Woodgrove Bank to move to a global standard and uniform pair of workstation images. The scope contains all phases, from planning to post-deployment daily operations, and will reflect a long-term change in computer lifecycle and desktop management.

Project Cost:	$1.9 million 10 percent of the total computer hardware and software budget for the current fiscal year Leaves adequate budget ($17.2 million) for other planned updates Does not include cost of planned hardware refresh (33%), refresh of computers older than 3 years, or Microsoft licensing covered by the standing Enterprise Agreement Detailed project cost estimates can be found in “Cost/Benefit Analysis” section of this document.
Tangible Benefits:	The primary benefits are achieved through workforce productivity, platform stability, reduced downtime, and improved computer management efficiency. Detailed benefit analysis and assumptions are outlined in “Cost/Benefit Analysis” section of this document.

Improved Mobility: Windows Vista gives mobile professionals easier and more secure access to corporate resources so they can readily collaborate with colleagues—both on and off the network. They will also find it easier to make wireless connections and synchronize mobile devices. Improved Security and Compliance: Protecting information and complying with regulations has placed increased demands on Woodgrove’s IT infrastructure. More sophisticated data protection and auditing capabilities in Windows Vista help simplify IT management and can help lower costs for regulatory compliance. In addition, Windows Vista helps manage security risks by protecting information and services in a more controllable and secure environment. Optimize Your Desktop Infrastructure: Windows Vista is designed to be less expensive to deploy and support, and to offer a better return on IT investment. Windows Vista: Windows Vista makes tools and security settings more easily accessible and manageable so that the IT group can more easily and efficiently keep everyone on the network secure. New Office Outlook Features: New features such as Office Outlook flags, Search folders, reminders, and alerts help users prioritize and act on their important tasks and e-mail. Workspaces: Create shared meeting workspaces for managing agenda items and follow-up actions, and track meeting attendance from within Office Outlook. Scalability: Implementing standardized desktop images achieves a critical step toward scaling into a managed computer environment using systems management tools.
