Roles and Responsibilities

Commerce Server 2002 provides a set of features and tools to develop, deploy, and manage Web sites. Working with Commerce Server requires specific skills that span three areas of expertise within an organization. In the following table, Commerce Server features are grouped for use by the three general role categories within an organization, with the skill sets shown.

Role Expected knowledge
Site developer Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language (DHTML), Extensible Markup Language (XML), Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), HTML Components (HTC), and Active Server Pages (ASP)
System administrator Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0
Business manager Business goals, strategies, and processes for creating and running a successful e-commerce Web site
