Installing the Base Platform

After you have obtained the hardware and software requirements, install the base platform on each server before configuring the network and installing the software. The following describes how to install the base platform:

  1. Install Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Service Pack 2 (SP2) on all servers.

  2. Install Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 on the Web and on servers running Business Desk. See the IIS site for the latest hotfixes.

  3. Install MSXML version 3.0 with SP2 on the Web and on servers running Business Desk.

If Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 (which includes MSXML 3.0 SP2) is not installed, you can install MSXML 3.0 SP2 from the Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 product CD using the \Support\MSXML 3.0 Sp2\msxml3sp2setup.exe file. During installation, select the option to install in side-by-side mode. This option prevents MSXML 3.0 SP2 from overwriting MSXML version 2.6, which is required for Business Desk.

Once you have installed the base platform, you can begin configuring the network by connecting network adapters and assigning IP addresses.
