Generate built-in reports and work with analytical views
Applies To: Dynamics Marketing
Important
Microsoft Dynamics Marketing has been discontinued and is no longer available. All customer data related to this product has been permanently deleted from all Microsoft servers and is no longer available for extraction. This documentation is being provided for historical purposes only.
Microsoft Dynamics Marketing provides both analytical views and pre-designed reports that make it easy for you to analyze and present your marketing results and other data. The analytical views are intended for viewing on-screen, though you can also export them to Excel, while the reports are optimized more for exporting and printing.
Prerequisites
The various types of reports and analytic views are protected by different privileges, thus helping to ensure that access privileges to these data can be consistent with access to similar types of data in the rest of the system. See the following table for details. For more information about assigning privileges, see Work with user accounts and staff contacts.

Analytical views
Many features of Dynamics Marketing provide an analytic view of the data they collect and process. These views are generally spread throughout the application to keep them close to their related features. However, the relevant menu points are also collected (and repeated) under in the Performance area (for example, Performance > Projects > Jobs % on Time actually opens the same page as Projects > Reports > Jobs % on Time). The Performance area also includes a few features that are not available in any of the other areas.
To work with an analytic view (and possibly use it as the basis for a report), do the following:
Open the relevant menu entry (either in the Projects area or using a menu item closer to the feature controls).
Use the search, sort, and filter controls provided to assemble and organize the data that you wish to use. Depending on the type of view you are working with, you may have additional special-purpose controls to further optimize the data (for details about these, choose the Help
icon in the upper-right corner of the page to open the relevant help topic). Note that these views often provide links to related records and information so you can explore your data as needed.Once you have created a useful view of your data, you can print, export and/or save it for use in a report by using the various toolbar buttons.
Built-in reports
The analytical views provided in the Performance area (and discussed above) enable you to explore your results, establish a dataset and export it for use in reports and other external applications. However, these features are mostly targeted for on-screen use. So, in addition to these, Dynamics Marketing also provides a collection of analytical views designed more specifically for generating reports. To find these, go to Performance > Other Reports > Other Reports. Unlike with the other analytical views, these reports offer the following:
Custom header and footer graphics: Add your logo and/or other common elements to the header and/or footer of all of your built-in reports. To establish these, use the Logo Options settings on the Site Settings page (More information: Configure site settings).
Export to PDF: save a local copy of a report as a PDF document.
Email as PDF: generate and send a PDF version via email.
Export to Excel: save a local copy of a report as a Microsoft Office Excel workbook (also available with most analytic views).
Print: print a physical report (also available with most analytic views)
To work with built-in reports do the following:
Go to Performance > Other Reports > Other Reports to open the Reports page.
Navigate through the Reports list to find and select the type of report you wish to generate.
Use the filter controls provided to assemble the data that you wish to include in your report, and then choose Go to apply your filter.
A preview of your report is shown. Continue to work with the filters until the report includes all of the data you need. Once you have set up the report, use the various toolbar buttons to email (as PDF), print, export, or save it.
Note
Some types of special-purpose built-in reports, such as printed checks or invoices, can be created and seen in other relevant areas of Dynamics Marketing in addition to (or instead of) the Other Reports area.
See the following subsections for an overview of the various types of built-in reports that are available in the Other Reports area.
