Design and generate reports

Applies To: Dynamics Marketing

Microsoft Dynamics Marketing has been discontinued and is no longer available. All customer data related to this product has been permanently deleted from all Microsoft servers and is no longer available for extraction. This documentation is being provided for historical purposes only.

As you and others work in Microsoft Dynamics Marketing, the system will quickly begin to hold a large amount of valuable data about your contacts, campaigns, events, budgets and more. To help you make sense of this data, Dynamics Marketing offers several tools for collecting, analyzing, and presenting the many types of information managed by the system, including:

  • Built-in analytical views
Dynamics Marketing provides many different analytical views that provide insight into your various types of marketing data. Most of them include search, sort, and filter tools to help you focus on the exact data you are interested in. Often, you will use these tools directly in your browser while working in the application, but you can also export the filtered data to Microsoft Office Excel for archiving, presentation and/or further analysis.

  • Built-in reports
In addition to the in-app analytical views, Dynamics Marketing also provides a wide variety of pre-designed business reports, each of which implements specialized queries to fulfil specific business needs. As with the analytical views, you set up your reports by establishing search, sort and filtering criteria and then generate the report for print or for export as a PDF or Excel workbook. Unlike the analytical views, you can also customize the look of your reports by defining branded header and footer elements (in Site Settings).

  • Custom reports in Microsoft Office Excel with Power BI
Use Excel to create graphically rich, fully customized reports based on your Dynamics Marketing data. Use Power Query to extract the exact data you need directly from Dynamics Marketing via live OData feeds and take advantage of the many analysis and graphical tools of Excel to help make that data easy to understand and to present.

  • Create custom dashboards in Power BI for Office 365
These are similar to the custom reports in Microsoft Office Excel with Power BI, but are available online for viewing from any web browser. You can assemble several different types of reports into a single dashboard, thus creating a convenient view for keeping an eye on day-to-day developments in Dynamics Marketing. Or get a head start by enabling the Dynamics Marketing content pack, which is included with Power BI and provides a collection of useful, pre-built widgets for your Power BI dashboard.
