Sample: Associate and disassociate records using the OData endpoint with JavaScript

Applies To: Dynamics CRM 2015

This sample code is for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online 2015 Update. Download the Microsoft Dynamics CRM SDK package. It can be found in the following location in the download package:

SampleCode\JS\RESTEndpoint\JavaScriptRESTAssociateDisassociate

If you just want to see how this sample works you can install (import) the JavaScriptRESTAssociateDisassociateSample_1_0_0_2_managed.zip managed solution included in the download files. If you install this managed solution and want to create the web resources using the names in this topic, your solution publisher customization prefix cannot be “sample” unless you uninstall (delete) the managed solution.

Requirements

To run the sample code, create the following Web resources:

  • ** sample_/JavaScriptRESTAssociateDisassociate.htm**
An HTML page that provides the user interface to run the samples..

  • ** sample_/Scripts/JavaScriptRESTAssociateDisassociate.js**
A JavaScript library that contains functions to manage the user interface.

  • ** sample_/Scripts/SDK.REST.js**
This JavaScript library provides the SDK.REST.associateRecords and SDK.REST.disassociateRecords functions as well as other functions for using the REST endpoint for web resources.

Note

The customization prefix ‘sample_’ is not used in code. These samples will work using the customization prefix from any publisher. However the relative path of the simulated Scripts folder must be included in the name of the Web resources.

Demonstrates

This sample contains two examples:

  • Associate Accounts
This sample creates two new account records and associates them. The following steps describe the actions:

    1. Create a new account record named “Parent Account”.

    2. Create a new account record named “Child Account”.

    3. Associate the records setting the Parent Account as the parent of the Child Account.

    4. Display links to allow you to verify that the association was performed.

    5. Display buttons to allow you to disassociate and delete the records created by the sample.

  • Associate Account to Email as ActivityParty
This sample creates an account and email record and then associates the account to the email as the from field using an activityparty record. The following steps describe the actions:

    1. Create a new account record named “Email Sender Account”.

    2. Create a new email activity named “Email Activity”.

    3. Create a new activityparty record that associates the account to the email.

    4. Display links to allow you to delete the records.

    5. Display a button to allow you to delete the record.

Both samples have a button to start the sample. The results are displayed in the Results section at the bottom of the page. After running either sample, use the Rest Sample button to run the sample again.

sample_/JavaScriptRESTAssociateDisassociate.htm

This file provides the UI that explains the sample behavior and buttons to start and reset the samples.
