Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint Client and Portal Framework

The Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint client enables you to interact with Microsoft Dynamics NAV data from a Microsoft SharePoint website. The Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint client is built on the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework for Microsoft SharePoint 2010, which is a web-based application framework that integrates Microsoft Dynamics NAV with Microsoft SharePoint applications. By integrating with SharePoint, the Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint client lets you take advantage of the business productivity and administration benefits in Microsoft SharePoint, including workflows, business connectivity services, workspaces, SharePoint authentication, and scalability.

Deploying the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework is a set of components that you install on a server or servers that are running Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 or Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. After you have installed Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework, you can create new or modify existing SharePoint applications to display Microsoft Dynamics NAV pages and reports from which users can view, edit, and manage Microsoft Dynamics NAV data.

For more information, see Deploying Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework.

Developing for the Microsoft Dynamic NAV SharePoint Client

As a developer of Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint client applications, you will have the same experience as developing Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client applications. You use the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment to create Microsoft Dynamics NAV objects and implement the same business logic as you would for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client. The same page or report can be displayed in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client and Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint client.

For more information, see Developing for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint Client.

Using the Microsoft Dynamic NAV SharePoint Client

End users work with Microsoft Dynamics NAV data in a familiar SharePoint environment. Working with Microsoft Dynamics NAV pages and reports in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint client is very similar to the working with the pages and reports in Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client or Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client. The Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint client is designed for occasional users who typically need an overview of their daily work status and perform relatively simple or light data entry.
