Upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2

Depending on your current Microsoft Dynamics NAV solution, you can upgrade directly to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2, or you must upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 first and then upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2.

This section describes how to upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013, Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2, or Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 SP1 to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2. If you have an earlier version, such as Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 or Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0, you must first upgrade that version to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 or Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 SP1. To upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2, you must go through the following main steps:

  • Upgrading the Application Code

    If you upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 or Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 SP1, when you upgrade the application code to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2, you must include the steps for upgrading application code to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013.

  • Upgrading the Data

If your current solution is based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013, you can convert the database to the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 technical requirements, and then upgrade the application and data later. For more information, see Converting a Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Database.

Tip

At the end of this process, you have fully upgraded your solution to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2. Then, you can choose to deploy the solution in a multitenant environment. For more information, see Migrating to Multitenancy.
