Step 10: Verify the Installation

Verifying the FIM1 installation for the Forefront Identity Manager 2010 test lab consists of the following:

  • Verify the E-mail Server, Database Server, and MA Account

  • Verify the Build Numbers of the FIM Service and the FIM Synchronization Service

  • Verify the Password Registration Portal

  • Verify the Password Reset Portal

  • Verify Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Beta Reports are installed.

  • Verify Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Beta Reporting

Verify the E-mail Server, Database Server, and MA Account

To verify the e-mail server, database server, and MA account

  1. Log on to FIM1 as CORP\Administrator.

  2. Navigate to the following directory: c:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Service .

  3. Locate the Microsoft ResourceManagement.Service.exe.Config file, right-click and select Open. This will bring up a pop-up that states Windows cannot open this file and it will have two options. Choose Select a program from a list of installed program, and click OK.

  4. Select Notepad, and click OK. This will open the config file in Notepad.

  5. Look for mailServer and note the value.

  6. Look for SynchronizationServerName and note the value.

  7. Close the config file.

  8. Click Start. Click Run. Type the following text, and then click OK:

  9. Navigate to the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\FIMService key.

  10. Look for DatabaseName and note the value.

  11. Look for DatabaseServer and note the value.

  12. Look for SynchronizationAccount and note the value.

  13. Look for SynchronizationAccountSid and note the value.

  14. Close the Registry Editor.

Verify the Build Numbers of the FIM Service and the FIM Synchronization Service

To verify the build numbers of the FIM Service and the FIM Synchronization Service

  1. Log on to FIM1 as CORP\Administrator.

  2. Navigate to the following directory: c:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Service.

  3. Locate the Microsoft ResourceManagement.Service.exe file, right-click and select Properties. This will bring up the Properties dialog box.

  4. At the top, click the Details tab.

  5. Look for Product Version and note the value. It should be x.x.xxxx.x. Click Cancel.

  6. Navigate to the following directory: c:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Synchronization Service\Bin .

  7. Locate the miiserver.exe file, right-click and select Properties. This will bring up the Properties dialog box.

  8. At the top, click the Details tab.

  9. Look for Product Version and note the value. It should be x.x.xxxx.x. Click Cancel.

Verify the Password Registration Portal

Now we will use Internet Explorer to verify that the Password Registration Portal comes up.

To verify the Password Registration Portal

  1. Log on to FIM2 as CORP\Administrator.

  2. Click Start, select All Programs, and click Internet Explorer (64-bit).

  3. In Internet Explorer, in the address bar at the top, enter https://passwordregistration.corp.contoso.com:444 and hit enter. When prompted for credentials, enter the Administrator’s credentials.

  4. The Password Registration Portal should now come up.

Verify the Password Reset Portal

Now we will use Internet Explorer to verify that the Password Reset Portal comes up.

To verify the Password Reset Portal

  1. In Internet Explorer, in the address bar at the top, enter https://passwordreset.corp.contoso.com and hit enter.

  2. The Password Registration Portal should now come up.

  3. Close Internet Explorer.

Verify Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Reports are installed.

Now we will verify that the FIM 2010 R2 reports have been installed.

To verify Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Reports are installed.

  1. Log on to APP3 as CORP\Administrator.

  2. Click Start, select All Programs, and click Internet Explorer (64-bit).

  3. In Internet Explorer, in the address bar at the top, enter https://app3.corp.contoso.com/ReportServer and hit enter. When prompted for credentials, enter the Administrator’s credentials.

  4. Click on the SystemCenter directory.

  5. Click on the ServiceManager directory.

  6. Click on the Forefront.IdentityManager.Reporting directory.

  7. Verify that there are several reports installed. There should be 8 total.

  8. Close Internet Explorer.

Verify Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Reporting

Now we will use the Microsoft System Center Service Manager to verify the Group Membership Change Report. Because there is additional steps to configure reporting, the report will not show any data. This section will just verify that the report comes up. These are available in the RC content.

To verify Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Reporting

  1. Log on to FIM1 as CORP\Administrator.

  2. Click Start, select All Programs, select Microsoft System Center and select Service Manager Console. This will launch the Service Manager Console. This may take a moment.

  3. In the Service Manager Console, on the Connect to Service Manager Server, in the box next to Server Name, remove FIM1 and enter APP2. Click Connect. This may take a moment.

  4. In the Service Manager Console, at the bottom on the left, click Reporting.

  5. Reporting should appear at the top, on the left. Click Forefront Identity Manager Reporting. This will populate reports in the center.

  6. In the center, click Group Membership Change Report and on the right, under Tasks click Run Report. This may take a moment but the report should come up and be similar to the screenshot below.

  7. Close Service Manager Console.
