We are pleased to announce to our Microsoft Unified Communications customers that Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 is now supported by the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory directory service deployments when Office Communications Server 2007 R2 is installed on a domain member server that hosts the Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system..

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 is now supported by the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory directory service deployments. They provide you with the added extensibility that Windows Server 2008 R2 has to offer for Unified Communications. Support for Windows Server 2008 R2 includes deployment in Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory forests and domains.

In general, the combination of Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 represents the most technically advanced deployment option for Microsoft Unified Communications deployment

What is supported for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2?

Office Communications Server 2007 R2 can now be deployed as a member server role on a Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system. Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat will function in a Windows Server 2008 R2 forest. What is not supported for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2?

Upgrading the operating system to Windows Server 2008 R2 for an existing installation of Office Communications Server 2007 R2 is not supported.

Office Communications Server 2007 R2 administration tools will install only in native 32-bit or native 64-bit mode. Because of an application compatibility issue with Windows Server 2008 R2, installing 32-bit Office Communications Server 2007 R2 administration tools on 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system is not supported.

Deploying Speech Server 2007 on Windows Server 2008 R2 is not supported.
