The Microsoft Exchange Analyzer Tool reads the version number of the following file to determine whether Microsoft Windows Server 2003 COM+ 1.5 hotfix rollup package 12 has been installed:

%WINDOWSPATH%\System32\Rpcss.dll

Exchange Analyzer determines if all the following conditions are true:

  • The system is running Windows 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

  • The Cluster service is running.

  • The Exchange server is not an Exchange Server 2003 Front-End server. (However, the server can be an Exchange Server 2003 Back-End server.)

  • The version of the Rpcss.dll file is earlier than 5.2.3790.4045.

If these conditions are all true, you receive the following message:

COM+ 1.5 hotfix rollup package is available. An important update for Microsoft COM+ server is available on server Exchange_Server_Name. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article 934016 for further information.
