About the NAP Client Status in Network Access Protection

Use the following information to identify and understand references to the NAP client status in Configuration Manager 2007, which is displayed in reports and the Network Access Protection home page
The NAP client status in Configuration Manager 2007 indicates whether the Configuration Manager client can support Network Access Protection (NAP). Only clients that support Network Access Protection can have compliance enforced and be remediated by the Windows NAP health policy server. These computers have a NAP client status of NAP-capable.
NAP-capable clients include computers that are running Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, and Windows XP with Service Pack 3.
The NAP-capable status is derived from the operating system capability. It does not verify whether the Network Access Protection Agent service is started. It also cannot detect whether a Configuration Manager local policy has disabled the site setting that enables the Configuration Manager Network Protection client agent.
The NAP client status of NAP-upgradable identifies computers that are running Windows XP Service Pack 2. Upgrade these computers (and computers running Windows XP Service Pack 1) to Windows XP Service Pack 3 if you want to support Network Access Protection on the Windows XP operating system.
You can use software updates to upgrade computers to Windows XP Service Pack 3, or you can download the service pack from the Microsoft Download Center and use software distribution to install it on supported platforms.
