How to Set a Maintenance Window

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

In order to set a maintenance window for a specific collection, you must have Modify Collection Settings permission for the Collections security object or instance type. For more information about security permissions, see Classes and Instances for Object Security in Configuration Manager.

Maintenance windows are set on a per collection basis.

If a maintenance window has been specified, an advertised program will fail to run if its maximum allowed run time setting exceeds the maintenance window period.

If the maximum allowed run time setting of the advertised program is set to Unknown, Configuration Manager evaluates this setting as 0 (zero) minutes. The advertised program will only be run if its countdown duration does not exceed the maintenance window period.

For more information, see Program Name Properties: Requirements Tab.

To set a maintenance window on a collection

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Collections.

  2. Right-click the collection for which you want to set a maintenance window, and then click Modify Collection Settings.

  3. On the Maintenance Windows tab, click the New icon.

  4. In the Name box, type a name for this maintenance window.

  5. In the Time area, select an effective date for the window, as well as a start and end time for the window. The duration of the maintenance window is shown below the selected start and end times.

Do not set the duration of the maintenance window for longer than 24 hours. If a longer maintenance window is required, use multiple windows.

  6. Select the UTC check box if you want the maintenance windows to be on a Coordinated Universal Time schedule rather than local time.

  7. Select a recurrence pattern for the maintenance window if desired.

For more information about recurrence patterns in custom schedules, see Custom Schedule Dialog Box.

  8. Select the This schedule applies only to operating system deployment task sequences option, if desired.

  9. Click OK.
