About the Proxy Account for Internet-Based Clients

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

These credentials are needed only if Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 clients need to connect to the Internet via a proxy server or firewall requires authenticated access.

Required Rights and Permissions

This account requires permission to use the proxy server or firewall for Internet access.

Account and Password Creation

Depending on the type of firewall or proxy server, this might be a set of credentials instead of an actual account. The firewall or proxy server administrator might create or designate the credentials to be used.

Account Location

This account exist anywhere it can access the proxy server or firewall.

Account Maintenance

The administrator configures the Configuration Manager 2007 client to use the new account or password.

Security Best Practices

Use an account with the least possible permissions.
