How to Create a Package
Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2
The primary method of creating a package within Configuration Manager 2007 is to create the package manually in its entirety.
You can also create a package using a package definition file as a template. For information about how to do this, see How to Create a Package from a Package Definition File. To find out more about package definition files, see About Package Definition Files.
Additionally, you can use the Distribute Software Wizard to create a package if you want to create and distribute the package and associated programs, advertisements and (optionally) collections at the same time.
Once created, Configuration Manager 2007 displays the new package in the Configuration Manager console, and by default, it adds Read permission for the local user access account and Full control permissions for the administrator group.
You must have Create permissions for the Package Security object type to create a package. You can edit package security settings using the Package Properties dialog box or through the Security Rights node on the Configuration Manager Console. For more information about security permissions, see Classes and Instances for Object Security in Configuration Manager.
