Virtual Machine Manager Administrator Console Software Requirements

You can install a Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) Administrator Console on a different computer than the VMM server.

Important

If you plan to use the reporting feature of VMM, you must install a VMM Administrator Console on the same computer as the VMM server to enable System Center Operations Manager 2007 administrators to perform tasks on hosts and virtual machines from within the Server Virtualization Management Pack. When you install the VMM Administrator Console, Setup also installs Windows PowerShell — the command shell used by Virtual Machine Manager, which is required to perform these tasks.

The following software must be installed prior to installing the VMM Administrator Console:

• An operating system supported by VMM.
  For more information about operating systems supported by VMM, see Supported Operating Systems for Virtual Machine Manager.
• Windows PowerShell 1.0.

If not already installed, the following software is installed during Setup:

• Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

• Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0.

  Note

  During installation of a non-English version of VMM, Setup installs the English version of .NET Framework 2.0 and .NET Framework 3.0 and does not install either .NET Framework language pack. Unless you install the .NET Framework language packs, any .NET Framework error messages will appear in English.
