Update or Install Firewall Client

Forefront TMG (formerly called Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server, or ISA Server) on the Security Server supports connections from Microsoft Firewall Client on client computers in your network. If Firewall Client is already installed on client computers, you must configure it to connect to Forefront TMG on the Security Server instead of to your legacy version of ISA Server.

If Firewall Client is not already installed on client computers, but you are planning to deploy it, you can download it from the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=115228).

For more information about configuring and deploying Firewall Client, see Forefront TMG Help: On the Security Server, in the Forefront TMG console, press F1.

To configure Firewall Client to connect to the Security Server

  1. Log on to a client computer by using a domain account.

  2. Open Firewall Client, and then click Settings.

  3. Verify that the Enable Microsoft Firewall Client for ISA Server check box is selected.

  4. Under ISA Server Selection, choose one of the following options:

    • If you want to detect Forefront TMG automatically, click Automatically detected ISA Server, and then click Detect Now. The text box displays the name of your Security Server.
    • If you want to specify Forefront TMG manually, click Manually specified ISA Server, and then type the name of your Security Server in the text box.

    Note

If you select the Automatically detected ISA Server option, you must configure Firewall Client and Web proxy client autodiscovery in your Windows operating system.

  5. Click OK.
