Zoom or pan the artboard

You can focus the artboard on specific objects or areas by zooming and panning.

To zoom in or out

Do one of the following:

  • Rotate the mouse wheel to zoom in or out.

    Tip

    You can change the keyboard shortcut for artboard zooming in the Options dialog box. Click Options on the Tools menu, click Artboard, and then select one of the three options next to Zoom by using.

  • Press CTRL+EQUAL SIGN (=) to zoom in, or press CTRL+MINUS SIGN (-) to zoom out.

  • Click Zoom Cc294501.0b371b14-454e-4a44-8cef-b9e0248e9894(en-us,Expression.30).png in the Tools panel, and then drag a marquee around the object or area of the artboard that you want to zoom in on. Click or drag again to zoom in more. To zoom out, hold the ALT key while dragging or clicking. The zoom tool appears with a plus sign (+) Cc294501.93cbd652-b6ad-412c-bc22-7b4d00dbe5c6(en-us,Expression.30).png when you are zooming in or a minus sign (-) Cc294501.686d2545-0c91-4ed5-b856-7da228a446aa(en-us,Expression.30).png when you are zooming out.

  • In the Zoom box Cc294501.40669d56-14cb-4393-8876-9d4056acf4e9(en-us,Expression.30).png at the bottom of the artboard, do one of the following:

    • Select a preset zoom percentage.

    • Enter a specific value.

    • Scroll through values by moving your pointer over the box, and then dragging when the numerical adjust pointer Cc294501.99713193-615f-4ee2-a668-522b5572f389(en-us,Expression.30).png appears.

    • Click in the Zoom box, and use the up and down arrow keys to adjust the zoom value.

  • On the View menu, click Zoom in or Zoom out.

To zoom in toward or out from the selected object

Select an object on the artboard or under Objects and Timeline, and then do one of the following:

  • Press CTRL+9.

  • In the Zoom box Cc294501.40669d56-14cb-4393-8876-9d4056acf4e9(en-us,Expression.30).png at the bottom of the artboard, select Fit selection.

  • On the View menu, click Fit selection.

    Note

    If you want only to center the artboard on the selected object without zooming, you can double-click Pan Cc294501.36d88244-683f-4f01-83d8-baf9cefd06cd(en-us,Expression.30).png in the Tools panel.

To resize the artboard to actual size

Do one of the following:

  • Press CTRL+1.

  • Double-click Zoom Cc294501.0b371b14-454e-4a44-8cef-b9e0248e9894(en-us,Expression.30).png in the Tools panel.

  • On the View menu, click Actual Size.

  • In the Zoom box Cc294501.40669d56-14cb-4393-8876-9d4056acf4e9(en-us,Expression.30).png at the bottom of the artboard, select Actual Size.

To pan the artboard

Do one of the following:

  • Hold down the SPACEBAR when the pointer is over the artboard, and then drag the artboard to the desired position.

  • Hold the SHIFT key while rotating the mouse wheel to pan the artboard right and left. Hold the CTRL key while rotating the mouse wheel to pan up and down.

  • Click Pan Cc294501.36d88244-683f-4f01-83d8-baf9cefd06cd(en-us,Expression.30).png in the Tools panel, and then drag the artboard to move it to the position you want.

  • Select an object on the artboard or in the Objects and Timeline panel, and then double-click Pan Cc294501.36d88244-683f-4f01-83d8-baf9cefd06cd(en-us,Expression.30).png in the Tools panel to center the artboard on the selected object.
