Connect to a server by using FTP

If the server that hosts your website supports FTP (File Transfer Protocol), you can publish your website to the server by using the FTP features in Microsoft Expression Web.

Expression Web enables you to use either passive FTP or normal FTP. Some network configurations will only work with passive FTP mode turned on, while others will only work with passive FTP mode turned off. Most network configurations will support both modes. The passive FTP mode is considered more secure.

To connect to an FTP host

  1. At the bottom of the Web Site view, click Remote Web Site.

  2. At the top of the view, click Remote Web Site Properties.

  3. In the Remote Web Site Properties dialog box, on the Remote Web Site tab, select FTP.
