Modify the visibility or ID of a layer

The Layers task pane enables you to set the visibility and ID of a layer, which is defined in Microsoft Expression Web as a set of <div> tags whose position property is set to either relative or absolute. In addition to the steps that are provided in this topic, you can also set a layer's visibility in the CSS Properties task pane and ID in the Tag Properties task pane. For more information, see CSS Properties task paneand Tag Properties task pane.

To modify layer visibility

  1. Open the web page in either Design view or Code view.

  2. In the Layers task pane, in the Layer Visibility column Cc295581.5ab3cab6-b7e1-4b2a-b863-c515d56f46fc(en-us,Expression.10).gif, click the layer that you want to modify.

    Note

The open eye icon Cc295581.5ab3cab6-b7e1-4b2a-b863-c515d56f46fc(en-us,Expression.10).gif indicates that the layer is visible by default. The closed eye icon Cc295581.64641abe-e695-431b-afa4-e1d4299d9dc6(en-us,Expression.10).gif indicates that the layer is hidden by default. If no icon appears, it means the layer has default visibility. If the layer is set to default visibility and is nested within a different layer or div element, the nested layer inherits the visibility setting from the layer that contains it.

To modify layer ID

  1. Open the web page in either Design view or Code view.

  2. In the Layers task pane, in the Layer ID column, double-click the layer that you want to rename. Type the desired layer name in the box.
