Team Foundation Versions and Editions

You can use either Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server or Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server, or you can combine Team Foundation clients and servers from both versions. If you combine multiple versions, you must understand the differences between those versions and plan for the compatibility issues between them.
