ETPrep

ETPrep.exe is used to configure EWF so that your run-time image can be deployed to a bootable CD-ROM. ETPrep prepares a run-time image by performing one or both of the following tasks:

• Deletes the Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) Volume.

  After the First Boot Agent (FBA) phase is complete, the EWF Volume must be deleted. Because CD-ROMs do not support more than one partition, the information typically stored in the EWF Volume is instead stored in the registry. This is an implementation of an EWF RAM Reg Mode. • Reassigns the drive letter of the boot volume to either the El Torito or CompactFlash device. The El Torito or CompactFlash boot device is then assigned the boot volume drive letter.

  After swapping the drive letters, the run-time image can be copied to and run directly on the CD-ROM or CompactFlash device. The drive letters are exchanged by moving data between the values associated with the drive letters in the HKLM\System\MountedDevices registry key.

ETPrep is only required if you are configuring the run-time image with EWF on a device other than the deployment device. For example, if you are creating a bootable CD-ROM, you must first deploy the run-time image on a hard disk to run FBA. After configuring FBA and EWF, you run ETPrep to configure your run-time to boot from the CD-ROM device.
