Networked Media Device Architecture (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/5/2010

The networked media device (NMD) features include support for the protocols and file formats that are needed to create Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)–aware networked media devices. The following illustration shows the relationship of the Windows Embedded CE elements that are needed to create a networked media device.

In This Section

  • Windows Media Connect Support
Describes how to support Windows Media Connect (WMC), a UPnP–compatible media server.

WMC supports Windows Media digital rights management (DRM) for networked devices.

  • Media Query Engine
Describes the function and structure of the Media Query Engine (MQE), which allows an NMD to connect with UPnP media servers, such as Windows Media Connect.
  • Windows Media DRM for Network Devices
Describes how Windows Media DRM is designed to protect and securely deliver content for playback on a portable or network device. WMC supports DRM on the media server side.
  • Virtual Surround Sound Support
Describes how to encode multichannel surround sound for stereo transmission to receivers with Dolby Pro Logic support.
  • Digital Media Receiver Design Template
Describes the Digital Media Receiver Design Template, a starting point for developing many types of devices for which digital media delivery is the primary functionality.
