Common Uses

Any application that requires USB support but does not require the capability of starting the system from a USB device, will require this package.

Any USB storage device, for example, a thumb drive or a DVD drive, must use the USB Mass Storage driver. Certain low-end devices such as a keyboard, a mouse, IR, and streaming devices such as USB cameras might not use the mass storage driver but will require the USB controller or hub drivers.

Notes

This package conflicts with the package Bootable Windows USB Stack.

Windows Embedded Standard 7 includes the following two packages that provide support for USB devices:

  • The Standard Windows USB Stack package provides support for USB devices but does not provide support for booting from a USB device.
  • The Bootable Windows USB Stack package provides support for USB devices but also enables booting a Windows Embedded Standard 7 device from a USB device.

If you select the Standard Windows USB Stack, the Bootable Windows USB Stack package is not required. The two packages are mutually exclusive; one package must be selected during dependency resolution, but only one package can be selected.
