SKU Compliance in Standard 7 SP 1 (Standard 7 SP1)

New for Windows Embedded Standard Service Pack 1: When you use an answer file to create an image, make sure that the image on the target device complies with the licensing permissions for your selected SKU (stock keeping unit). Windows Embedded Standard 7 Service Pack 1 includes SKU Compliance packages to help you make sure that all the images, you create comply with your selected version of Standard 7. The three versions of Standard 7 are shown in the following table.

The SKU Compliance package comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
Licensing and SKU Compliance
Licensing agreement documents are still the legally binding standard for Windows and Standard 7 licensing. SKU Compliance packages are designed to help you comply with the standards specified in the licensing agreement documents.
The License Assessment Tool for Windows Embedded Standard 7 is designed to help you select the version of Standard 7 that is appropriate for your image. After you use the License Assessment Tool to select a version of Standard 7 for your image, you can add a SKU Compliance package to make sure that your image complies with the licensing level for the version of Standard 7 that you selected. You can only add SKU Compliance packages to Standard 7 Service Pack 1 images. These packages work with both 32-bit and 64-bit images. You are not required to add a SKU Compliance package to an image; if you decide to add a SKU Compliance package to an image and then build the image, the SKU Compliance package cannot be uninstalled from that image.
Warning
If you add more than one SKU Compliance package to an image, any feature disabled by any one of the SKU compliance packages is disabled in the image.
If you add a SKU Compliance package to an existing image that contains AntiMalware, Photo Viewer, or Tablet PC Support packages (which include features that should be disabled by using the SKU Compliance package), some features might still continue to function. The SKU Compliance packages work with these feature packages in Image Configuration Editor and Image Builder Wizard by preventing their inclusion in an image, rather than by directly disabling the features.
SKU Compliance Packages can be applied online and they will set Software Licensing API settings to block most of the features. However, some features are not blocked by the Software Licensing API, instead they are blocked by making packages mutually exclusive with the SKU Compliance package. When you add the SKU Compliance packages to your answer file, Image Configuration Editor and Image Builder Wizard will display a message if you are required to remove the other packages before creating a valid answer file.
When you build a new image from Image Configuration Editor or Image Builder Wizard that includes a SKU Compliance package, dependency resolution makes sure that you are prevented from including these packages.
SKU Compliance Packages in ICE
The Windows Embedded Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit lets you add a SKU Compliance package to an answer file in Image Configuration Editor. To add a SKU Compliance package to an answer file, follow these steps:
- From the File menu in Image Configuration Editor, select a Standard 7 Service Pack 1 distribution share.
For more information about Standard 7 Service Pack 1 distribution shares, see Distribution Shares in Standard 7. - Open your answer file in Image Configuration Editor.
- Right-click the SKU Compliance package, and then click Add to Answer File.
The path of the SKU Compliance package is \Packages\FeaturePack\SKU Compliance.
SKU Compliance Packages in IBW
To add a SKU Compliance package to an answer file in Image Builder Wizard, follow these steps:
- Start Image Builder Wizard, and begin clicking through the wizard.
- On the Summary of Drivers and Features page, select the Modify Features check box.
- Navigate to the SKU Compliance package.
The path of the SKU Compliance package is FeaturePack\SKU Compliance. - Select a check box to add the SKU Compliance package you want to use, and then click the Resolve Dependencies button.
When all dependencies are resolved, click Next. - Continue clicking through the wizard to the end.
