Kinect for Windows Compatibility (Standard 8 Module Reference)

7/8/2014

Review the settings, dependencies and any notes for the Kinect for Windows Compatibility module in the Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) module catalog.

This module provides the functionality required for end users to install and use the Kinect for Windows runtime, but does not include the runtime itself. You can create devices that provide rich end-user experiences when the user adds the Kinect for Windows runtime and sensor technology. For more information about Kinect for Windows runtime, see Kinect for Windows.

Notes

If you are using a .pmq file generated by Image Configuration Editor (ICE), you must connect the Kinect for Windows sensor to your device before ICE detects peripheral devices to make sure that the device can recognize the sensor.

If you are not using a .pmq file generated by ICE, you must connect the Kinect for Windows sensor to your device before you run Image Builder Wizard (IBW) to make sure that the device can recognize the sensor. In IBW, on the Find and select device drivers screen, make sure to select Automatically detect devices. When IBW completes device detection, the Kinect sensor should show up in the Confirm drivers to install screen under Unmapped Devices as Microsoft Kinect Audio and Microsoft Kinect Camera. The actual Kinect drivers will be installed later when you install the Kinect for Windows runtime.

After you install your OS on your device, disconnect the Kinect sensor, install the Kinect for Windows runtime and drivers, and then reconnect the sensor to the device. The LED on the front of the sensor illuminates a steady green if it is properly installed on the device.
