Description

Removes Shut Down from the Start menu and disables the Shut Down button in the Windows Security dialog box.

As a result, users cannot use the Windows user interface to shut down the system. However, this entry does not prevent users from running programs that shut down Windows.

This entry stores the setting of the Disable and remove the Shut Down command Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes this entry from the registry, and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value	Meaning
0	The policy is disabled or not configured. Shut Down appears on the Start menu and in the Windows Security dialog box.
1	The policy is enabled. Shut Down does not appear on the Start menu or in the Windows Security dialog box.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Disable and remove the Shut Down command Group Policy (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Start Menu & Taskbar).

Note

Windows 2000 does not add this entry to the registry. You can add it by editing the registry or by using a program that edits the registry.

Tip

The Windows Security dialog box appears when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL while logged on to the system.
