Description

Determines whether the Sharing tab and the Internet Connection Sharing wizard page are displayed. These dialog boxes let administrators enable, disable, and configure the Internet Connection Sharing feature of a dial-up connection.

When displayed, the Sharing tab appears in the Properties dialog box for a dial-up connection on all Windows 2000 systems. The Internet Connection Sharing page appears in the Network Connection wizard only on Windows 2000 Server.

This entry stores the setting of the Allow configuration of connection sharing Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy, Group Policy sets the value to 0. If you set the policy to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry, and the system behaves as though the value is 1.

Value

Meaning

0

The policy is disabled. The system removes the Sharing tab and the Internet Connection Sharing wizard page.

1

The policy is enabled or not configured. The system displays the Sharing tab and the Internet Connection Sharing wizard page.

Internet Connection Sharing lets users configure their system as an Internet gateway for a small network. It provides network services, such as name resolution, to the network.

By default, Internet Connection Sharing is disabled when you create a dial-up connection, but administrators can use the Sharing tab and the Internet Connection Sharing wizard page to enable it.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Allow configuration of connection sharing Group Policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Network and Dial-up Connections).

Note Image Note

This entry applies only to users in the Administrators group.

This entry can appear in both the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER subtrees. If the entry appears in both places, the value of the entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE takes precedence over the value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
