Determines how many times the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) service issues Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Ping messages if the messages are not successful. When the number of unsuccessful messages reaches the value of this entry, the DHCP service offers a new IP address.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use the DHCP Manager snap-in. Right-click the name of the server, click Properties, and then click the Advanced tab. This entry stores the value in the Conflict detection attempts box.

The maximum valid value for this entry is 5. If you enter a value greater than 5, the DHCP service interprets it as 5.

Windows 2000 does not add this entry to the registry unless you use DHCP Manager to change the default value of this entry.
