Edit a Job Template

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008

To add, modify, or delete job properties in a job template, you can use the Job Template Editor in HPC Cluster Manager. Some basic job properties are added to a new job template when you use the Generate Job Template Wizard. If a job property is not specified in the job template, the HPC Job Scheduler Service applies the defaults and constraints from the Default job template instead.

For information about using HPC Cluster Manager, see Overview of HPC Cluster Manager.

To edit a job template

  1. In Configuration, in the Navigation Pane, click Job Templates.

  2. In the views pane, select a job template.

  3. In the Actions pane, click Edit. The Job Template Editor dialog box appears.

  4. To add a job property:

    1. Click Add, and then select a property from the drop-down list.

    2. In the Selected Job Properties list, click the property name, and then specify the default value and the valid range accordingly.

  5. To modify an existing property:

In the Selected Job Properties list, click the property name, and then specify the default value and the valid range accordingly.

  6. To delete an existing property:

In the Selected Job Properties list, click the property name, and then click Delete.

  7. After you are done editing the job template, click Save.

Additional considerations

  • The job properties that you can have in a job template are the same properties that are available when you create new jobs to run on your cluster. For more information about the available job properties, see Understanding Job and Task Properties.

  • You can set permissions for the job templates that you create, so that only specific users or groups can submit jobs with each template. For more information, see Set Job Template Permissions.

  • You can Copy a job template and then Edit the copy you made. This allows you to efficiently make a new job template based on the property settings of an existing job template.

  • To open HPC Cluster Manager, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft HPC Pack, and then click HPC Cluster Manager. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
