To perform this procedure, you must be logged on locally to the administration Web site with a domain user account that is a member of the Administrators group on the computer. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

Be sure to register the URL in your Domain Name System (DNS), and verify that it works and is available from the Internet. You must specify HTTPS for your cluster URL if you have enabled SSL for the Web services files.

If you are adding an extranet cluster URL to an RMS server that is already is service, new client licensor certificates must be obtained by the current RMS clients for them to access the extranet cluster for licensing.

Note

The RMS extranet cluster URL is designed to allow the consumption of rights-protected content. It does not allow a computer that is not joined to the RMS domain to author new content. For publishing new content, you must use the RMS client registry overrides appropriately.

Adding an Extranet Cluster URL

To Add an Extranet Cluster URL

  1. Log onto a server in the cluster as a member of the Administrators group.

  2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Windows RMS, and then click Windows RMS Administration to open the Global Administration Page.

  3. Next to the Web site on which you want to add an extranet cluster URL, click Administer RMS on this Web site.

  4. In the Administration links area, click Extranet cluster URL settings.

  5. In the Extranet cluster URL area, specify the URL from which you want external users to acquire licenses. You can also select either HTTP or HTTPS.

  6. Click Submit.
